Millions of Americans now take a GLP-1 medication such as Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro or Zepbound, and many of them also use CBD for sleep, stress or joint pain. So it is no surprise that “can you take CBD and Ozempic together” has become one of the most common CBD questions of 2026.
This guide explains what is known, what is not, and how to combine the two more safely if your doctor agrees.
Can You Take CBD and Ozempic Together?
For most healthy adults, taking CBD while on Ozempic does not appear to cause a direct drug interaction. There are no published studies that tested the two together, so “no known interaction” means no one has shown a problem, not that one has been ruled out.
The reason a direct interaction is unlikely comes down to how each is processed. CBD is broken down in the liver by cytochrome P450 enzymes, and it can slow those enzymes down, which is why it interacts with many pills. Semaglutide is a protein-like molecule that the body breaks down through a different route, by cutting it apart the way it handles proteins, not through those liver enzymes. The same is true of tirzepatide (Mounjaro, Zepbound).
That does not make the combination risk-free. The issues are real, just less direct.
Risk 1: Stacked Stomach Side Effects
Nausea, diarrhea, vomiting and constipation are the most common side effects of Ozempic, especially in the first weeks and after each dose increase. CBD has its own digestive side effects. In clinical trials of Epidiolex, the prescription CBD medicine, diarrhea and decreased appetite were among the most frequently reported, although those trials used far higher doses than most consumer products.
If you are already dealing with GI side effects from Ozempic, adding CBD can make it harder to tell what is causing what, and in some people it may add to the discomfort. That is one reason to avoid starting both at the same time. Our guide to CBD side effects covers what to watch for.

Risk 2: Slower Digestion Changes How Edibles Feel
Ozempic works partly by slowing how fast your stomach empties. The FDA prescribing information notes that this delay may affect the absorption of other medicines taken by mouth.
For CBD, the practical effect is timing. A CBD gummy or capsule may take longer than usual to kick in, and the effect may feel less predictable. The risk is taking a second dose because the first one “did not work.” If your CBD product contains THC, which most full-spectrum products do, that mistake matters more, because stacked THC doses can feel much stronger once they finally absorb. Under-the-tongue oils partly bypass the stomach, so they may be less affected than edibles. Our guide on how long CBD takes to work has typical timings for each format.
Risk 3: Interactions With Your Other Medications
This is the risk people overlook. Many people on a GLP-1 also take medications that CBD can interact with, because they are processed by the same liver enzymes CBD slows down. Examples worth asking your doctor or pharmacist about:
- Some diabetes pills, such as certain sulfonylureas. Ozempic already raises the risk of low blood sugar when combined with insulin or sulfonylureas, so anything that changes those drug levels deserves a check.
- Blood thinners like warfarin, where CBD has been linked to higher drug levels.
- Some statins, blood pressure drugs and antidepressants.
Our full list of CBD drug interactions explains which enzymes are involved and how to spot them on a label.
Does CBD Help With Weight Loss or Blood Sugar?
Not in any way that should replace or boost your medication. In a randomized, placebo-controlled trial of people with type 2 diabetes published in Diabetes Care in 2016, CBD at 100 mg twice a day did not significantly improve fasting blood sugar. A related cannabinoid, THCV, did. There is no good human evidence that CBD causes weight loss. We cover that research in our guide to CBD and diabetes.
What CBD may help with is the everyday stuff some GLP-1 users struggle with, such as sleep or stress, though the evidence there is modest too.
How to Use CBD More Safely on a GLP-1
- Ask your prescriber first, and bring a list of every medication and supplement you take.
- Do not start CBD during a dose increase. Wait until your Ozempic dose and side effects have settled.
- Start low: 5 to 10 mg once a day for a week, then adjust slowly. Our CBD dosage guide explains how.
- Choose THC-free CBD, meaning broad spectrum or isolate. It avoids the risk of stacked THC doses from delayed absorption and is less likely to cause drowsiness.
- Take it at a consistent time and do not redose if it seems slow.
- Stop and call your doctor if nausea, vomiting or diarrhea get worse, or if you notice signs of low blood sugar.
If you want a THC-free option, Forest Mountain Farms CBD gummies are broad spectrum, made from organic Colorado hemp, and publish batch lab reports showing non-detectable THC. Each gummy has a fixed dose, which makes it easy to start low. It is also the kind of product that stays legal under the new federal hemp rule taking effect on December 11, 2026, explained in Will CBD Be Illegal in 2026?

Frequently Asked Questions
Can you take CBD and Ozempic together?
There is no known direct interaction between CBD and semaglutide, because they are processed by different routes in the body. The main concerns are overlapping stomach side effects, slower absorption of CBD edibles, and CBD interactions with other medications. Ask your prescriber before combining them.
Does CBD interact with Wegovy or Mounjaro?
Wegovy contains the same drug as Ozempic, semaglutide, and Mounjaro and Zepbound contain tirzepatide. Neither is broken down by the liver enzymes CBD affects, so a direct interaction is unlikely. The same indirect cautions apply to all of them.
Can CBD make Ozempic nausea worse?
It can for some people. CBD can cause diarrhea and appetite changes, and adding it while you are still adjusting to Ozempic makes it harder to tell which one is causing symptoms. Wait until your dose and side effects are stable before trying CBD.
Can I take CBD gummies on Ozempic?
Many people do, but because Ozempic slows digestion, gummies may take longer to work. Start with a low dose, do not take a second gummy if the first seems slow, and choose THC-free gummies to avoid stacking THC.
Will CBD help me lose more weight on Ozempic?
There is no good evidence that it will. Human studies have not shown that CBD causes weight loss, and it should never be used to replace or boost a prescribed medication.
What kind of CBD is best with a GLP-1 medication?
A THC-free product, meaning broad spectrum or isolate, at a low fixed dose is the most cautious choice. It avoids THC effects if absorption is delayed and is less likely to cause drowsiness.
